Dear Friend,
Three great reasons to visit Brisbane this weekend!
This week the SkillsOne team have been busy preparing to film the WorldSkills Australia National Competition. The National Competition will run over three days from Friday 7th May to Sunday 9th May, 9.00am - 4.00pm at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
SkillsOne will be filming the competition and uploading videos at the end of each day, as well as the Opening Ceremony, Presentation Ceremony and interviews with judges, competitors, MPs and visitors, and a daily video blog from CEO of WorldSkills, Mark Callaghan.
Assisting the regular SkillsOne crew will be students from the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE Creative Service Industries Faculty. Up to ten students will have the opportunity to work alongside professional cameramen and presenters, getting a taste of a live production and its challenges.
Visitors to the National Competition can also have the chance to test their own skills in the “Try'aTrade” event, allowing visitors to have a go at trade areas such as brick laying, cooking, jewellery making or tiling to name a few.
Running simultaneously at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre is the National Careers and Employment Expo, a free event running Friday and Saturday. The Expo is expected to attract over 80,000 students, graduates, currently employed, job seekers and career inspiration seekers over two days.
Come to Brisbane for the weekend where you can find out more about getting a trade or a skill, try it out, and watch the nation’s best compete for WorldSkills Gold! If you can’t make it to Brisbane, be sure to check the WorldSkills and SkillsOne sites for daily updates including videos, news articles and blogs.
