SkillsOne - Hundreds of Videos About Getting a Trade or Skill

January 21, 2010

Dear Friend,

Company Announcement

SkillsOne.com.au, one of Australia’s leading multimedia companies that promote the importance of trades and skills, today announced company changes.

Brian Wexham, CEO of SkillsOne Television (formerly CEO of ITSE), said: “2009 saw many new developments on the VET landscape. Questions about the future of The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence (ITSE), and, perhaps, more importantly, how the initiatives developed by ITSE might continue albeit in a different form.”

Brian went on to say: “Before addressing the way forward, I would, on a personal and professional level, like to express my gratitude and appreciation for all those stakeholders, Industry Associations, Federal and State Governments from both sides of politics, Educators, and the VET sector generally, for their engagement and support.”

“ITSE rightly had to work hard to disperse the scepticism surrounding its birth. We proved to be an innovative, collaborative and valued resource that encouraged excellence and improvement in quality outcomes, while promoting the diversity of vocational education to the widest possible audience.”

“The Institute (ITSE) wound up its affairs at the end of last year. The Star Rating Scheme, SkillsOne, and Teaching Awards will however succeed under different stewardship.”

The Star Rating Scheme has been transferred to TVET Australia (www.tvetaustralia.com.au) who are investigating a comprehensive package of options for RTO excellence recognition which includes the Star Rating Scheme and AQTF Excellence. TVET’s mission which includes working with stakeholders nationally to improve the quality of the National Training System makes it an appropriate place for the Star Rating Scheme to reside. More information can be obtained from Chris Stewart at TVET.”

SkillsOne (www.skillsone.com.au ) continues to achieve increases in viewing audiences both via its daily (Mon to Fri) programming on Foxtel and via the website www.skillsone.com.au. More than 50,000 videos are viewed monthly highlighting and promoting the diversity of the VET sector. Encouraging the pursuit of Skills and Trades as a career path. SkillsOne will continue as a commercial enterprise. It will be required to generate sponsorship, advertising and custom programming opportunities to sustain itself. We will need the support of the sector. SkillsOne has proved to be a valued resource, it is unique, and it works. Details on SkillsOne can be obtained from me, email brian.wexham@skillsone.com.au or call 02 8314 7301.”

“Finally, The Trade Teacher of The Year Awards. As many are aware, DEEWR (www.deewr.gov.au) are undertaking a review of The Annual Training Awards which includes the Trade Teachers; doubtless they will emerge in a revised form. One thing was very much apparent during my time as CEO of ITSE and it was the importance of recognizing the valued contribution, and often sacrifice made by teachers within VET. I have been genuinely impressed and moved by their dedication and quality. We at ITSE did our best to light a candle to illuminate their contribution; hopefully DEEWR will switch on a spotlight.”
